I was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa where, from a young age, I was immersed in all kinds of creative pursuits, acting, singing, fashion and crafts. After landing several big roles at the Iowa City Community Theater, I was bitten by the acting bug in earnest and moved to Los Angeles to make a go of it. Over the next decade, though the acting career I dreamed of never quite materialized, I did find other satisfying creative outlets, doing standup comedy, writing, and selling my handmade quilts and handicrafts at flea markets where I was first exposed to a wonderful community of vintage furniture refurbishers and upcyclers and began to develop a keen interest in interior design.
When my dear friend, Isabelle Dahlin, needed help at her furniture and home accessory store, deKor, I jumped at the chance to learn everything I could from her. Soon after, an interior design client asked us to stage her home, and I was hooked. With Isabelle’s blessing, I focused exclusively on building deKor’s home staging business and within a few years grew our staging capacity and sales tenfold.
After 9 amazing years working under the deKor umbrella, I decided I was ready for the challenge of going out on my own and launched Ruby J. Wendell Interiors!
I can’t wait to bring out the best in your home!
